(More customer reviews)I bought this grill because I live in an apartment with no patio. I must say it works just great. I still haven't quite figured out if the aroma scenter in truly useful or not but that doesn't matter. If you are good at marinating meat before cooking this grill is ideal. A bit hard to clean, but I found a good scrub brush and dishwasher cycle does the trick. All in all there are a lot of griddles, Foreman type grills, and grill pans but I found the DeLonghi Healthy Grill to be the best in preparing meat with perfect grill marks if your into that type of thing. All in all its worth the price and better than the competition out there.

(More customer reviews)I have had this Grill for a few weeks and love it. It grills and melts cheese wonderfully for Panini's and also grill's meat and veggies very well. Easy to change temperature settings and easy clean up. I love how it drains from the side. It also can be laid flat so you can use both parts to cook and you then just have to flip your food. This way if you are Grilling for several people everyone's food can be done at the same time.

Like I said I have had it for a few weeks, used it several times and so far I am very impressed.

Grilling requires copious patient minutes, and the underslung heating for Raclette will just take the cheese from room temperature to somewhat glazed consistency. To produce a little crust on the cheese either takes longer than 20 minutes, or will never happen. The light brown baked surface on the top of the cheese really brings out the flavor. I tried this oven with authentic imported Raclette and with America Monterey Jack. It will melt the cheese enough to get it to flow, but that's after considerable time. Hope you like your guests, because there'll be plenty of chatting while you wait.

(More customer reviews)I only had raclette once before ordering this, so I don't have a connoisseur's understanding of it all, but I can say that this grill does a great job for my family and I.I like the idea of the granite top better than a metal one.It just seems cleaner and maybe healthier for you.The pans and scrapers are fine and it actually heated up for cooking in less time than the other raclette I had before.The granite seemed to stain a little and was somewhat difficult to clean, but I really don't mind.You only see the stains when it's heating up and before any food goes on it.After that, it's covered in meats and vegetables, and that's all that really matters!

Hamilton Beach 25450 Gourmet Panini Press Review

(More customer reviews)You can't give this machine a bad rating. This Hamilton Beach Panini Press does one thing and one thing only, but it does it very well. If you enjoy pressed/grilled sandwhiches you will love this machine. As I write this I'm eating a feta/olive/artichoke/roasted peppers on pita sandwhich hot off the panini press, and it's scrumptious. I actually bought this as a christmas gift for my mother, but I probably use it more than she does.

The machine looks good on the counter, and has a large, non stick service. It's not on a hinge so it's designed to accept even the thickest sandwhiches without squeezing all the filling out. You can even "lock" the lid down to apply constant pressure, or lock it up to maintain minimal pressure or to not make contact with the top at all. It's great for quesidillas as well. Ignore the user that says it takes too long to heat up, it takes only a couple of minutes, about the time a waffle maker would take to heat. Even cooking on the stove you need to take a few mins to heat the pan! Also ignore the comment that this machine burns the bread before heating the filling, I've never had such problems, although I do wish there was a temperature control for further versatillity. But my bread never burns... I find 2-6 min will brown the bread perfectly, from lightly browned to nice and crispy (depending on how you like it) without burning it at all. I've never burned anything on this machine. I even once used it to grill some chicken, and it did the job nicely, though it's not really designed for that.

The only down sides are that there are no frills. I've seen other models that come with nice recipe books, this one has just a few hastily thrown together recipe ideas in the instruction booklet. There's no temp control either, which is fine, but it would be nice to have some kind of control (it would be more convenient if you wanted to use it for alternative purposes. The machine gets very hot, but that's to be expected. There's no alternate "plates" or cooking surfaces for say a flat "griddle" style surface, so you'll have to settle for the striated grate style surface, which in all honestly is not a big deal at all.

This is a great machine, at a decent price. It could be better with a temp control, some extra features, and a better recipe book, but all-in-all, you can't complain. It does its job, and does it very well.

Originally, raclette was mountain cheese held near a fire and the melted part of the block scraped off onto a plate with potatoes and gherkins. Now, it's a fancy grill used for parties with trays beneath a heating element to melt cheese, and a grill on top of the element to cook sausages, shrimp, meats, veggies, pineapple, and even crepes. This raclette grill has some notable advantages:

1. It's oval, meaning it will work on a round table as people can access their melting trays from all sides.

2. It has a pancake and grill portion on the top grill.

3. It's very affordable.

If you want stone and not teflon, this isn't the one you want, but considering its advantages and that it is a great price for what might be only a party appliance, you can't go wrong. For round tables, it's a must.

Under safety precautions, it says to put water in the tray but when you go to read the operating section, it doesn't mention it so you don't know how much water to put in the tray. Plus, there are absolutely no recipes so you can get the hang of your new grill so I had to buy a separate book about it but even it has recipes that are too gourmet for me so although I think it is probably a good product, the documentation is sorely lacking. When I went to their website, it is in another country and it crashed my PC, so that wasn't helpful either. Will probably not buy another product from this company.

It has a slight raised lip running around the outside edge which contains any batters, grease, or other liquids which might run over the edge and create a mess; the grease drain is only on the front edge and is treated with the same sturdy non-stick coating as the rest of the surface, making for easy clean up. Indeed, the lack of plastic attachments make cleanup easy, and I really like the simple design, a very large cooking surface, two plastic handles and a removable plastic grease catch.

The only thing keeping me from rating it a five out of five is that I would have liked to see a thicker aluminum used, the base is only about 2mm thick, though I've been unable to find anything thicker

(More customer reviews)All this is really is is an electronic frying pan. If you run out of burners on your stove or frequently need to cook in odd spaces without stoves, I can see this being handy. There is a "fat channel" that is supposed to collect run off fat if you are cooking fatty meats but this will be very irritating fast if you're using this to make a sauce or to poach something. You'll need enough extra liquid to fill the channel and then for your dish.
As a "healthy alternative to a traditional frying pan", it's not quite the case.
The lining is non-stick. I'm not going to go on record for or against using nonstick on high heats but you do hear it's not a good idea to use it at high.
The nicest thing is the quick heat response. I wasn't prepared for that and it's a real plus.
It looks fine. Not very sleek but not ugly.

At first, I wasn't sure that I wanted a cast iron griddle.They are HEAVY and not dishwasher safe . . . so I tried a few nonstick brands first --top dollar brands with high ratings.

I hated them.The nonstick surface was inferior.On a reversible griddle, the underside became sticky and difficult to clean.The heat was distributed unevenly.One claimed to be dishwasher safe, yet when I put it in the dishwasher, some of the nonstick surface came off.

I am extremely health conscious, and I use very little oil when I cook.Food often stuck to the "non-stick" surface -- go figure.

I wanted to find a great griddle that I could use for many things, including cooking like the chefs in Japanese Steak Houses -- I dreamed of using a small dash of my favorite oil and flinging shrimp, chicken and veggies on the griddle like a pro.No, I didn't think I could toss my tools in the air or catch the shrimp in my pocket . . . I just wanted the flavor and the ease of cooking.

By this time, I was on a quest, and the non-stick stuff just wasn't cutting it.I did a little research, and I learned that pros recommend the Lodge griddle, so despite my apprehension, I thought I'd give it a try.

Wow!The pre-seasoned surface is perfect and better than any non-stick surface I have ever used.Just a tiny bit of non-stick spray is all I need, and everything from pancakes to eggs flip with ease.Grilling Japanese style works perfectly.

On the grill side: whole steaks, chicken, fish -- fabulous, fast, and everything has those beautiful grill lines.Nice for grilled vegetables, too.

The griddle is indeed heavy, but it's okay.I wouldn't recommend lifting it if you have serious muscle or joint problems, and I wouldn't want to drop it on my foot, but otherwise, go for it.I'm a softie, and if I can handle it, so can you.

As for not being able to put the griddle in the dishwasher:I don't believe I'm going to say this, but I don't care about having to handwash it.The griddle cleans so easily, a few swipes and I'm done.If I forget to clean it and wake up to it the next morning (okay, so I'm not Suzy Homemaker), I just lay it straight across the top of my sink -- not IN the sink, but rather, balanced from edge to edge, on top . . . and I run a little water over it, let it set for a few minutes, and it'seasy to clean.

A word of advice:Just as it says in the instructions, you need to clean the griddle without soap (water only) to preserve the pre-seasoned finish.However, should you want to use soap, you can.There are instructions included in how to re-season the griddle -- it's easy.

I frankly didn't like the idea of not cleaning with soap.I didn't feel as though the germs were destroyed . . . but soap doesn't really kill germs, it merely works as a surfactant that makes water wetter so things become easier to clean.

If you want to kill germs, heat is one of the best ways to do it.Every time you use the griddle, you preheat it on the range for about five minutes or so -- you're killing far more germs than if you had used soap!

You can also rub your griddle with a very light coating of oil, stick it in a hot oven and disinfect it that way (this is also similar to how you reseason it).

This is one of the easiest, most wonderful kitchen tools I own.It is a breeze to use, I feel like a pro flipping all that food around.Everything comes out great, and it is very easy to use, and food does not stick.

I have since added six more pieces of cast iron to my collection, one triangle cornbread/scone, a round muffin/biscuit, and four cast iron skillets.Two of the skillets are antique -- talk about well-seasoned! I do not use the bread/muffin bakers as much as I thought I would, but I use the skillets almost every day.I love them.

PS:I remember reading somewhere that using cast iron also adds iron to your diet.A nice extra, yes?
