(More customer reviews)This unit just isn't very good.It doesn't cook things evenly.If I put anything (pancakes, french toast, bacon, etc...) in the center of the unit, the food always cooks unevenly.For example, a pancake will get a brown stripe down the middle but the edges remain white.Same with french toast.And there is about a two inch spot all around the entire cooking surface that is much cooler than the rest of the griddle.So you're forced to cram everything into the center or risk half your item coming out raw.To top it off, the literature that comes with the griddle tells you to set it at certain temperatures for different foods (375 degrees for bacon, 375 for french toast, 350 for pancakes, 325 for ham slices, 400 for steaks, etc...), but the temperature control unit settings are listed as #1 thru #5.You'd think that maybe each number represents a temperature setting.But they only list 4 different cooking temperature levels in the manual while they have 5 different numbers on the control.How the heck are you supposed to know what number equals 375 degrees?Very poor design.

I don't care how much money you have to spend on a griddle.Whatever you do, just don't spend it on this one.

(More customer reviews)I honestly cannot say enough good things about this pan.At first I was skeptical and a little hesistant about cooking with cast iron.Growing up in the south I knew the magic of cast iron cornbread made with fatback, but I also knew the special care that went into seasoning the beloved pieces of cookware.When I saw that this was preseasoned I went for it.I worried that it might be a lightweight pan and only sublime quality for the price but I was pleasantly surprised.This pan has a heavy weight to it and is crafted solidly.I've used it for hamburgers (they make the best I've ever tasted), grilled chicken, pork chops, and shrimp (YUM).Something I learned is that things tend to stick a little so coating the pan with vegetable spray is a good idea.Also, try soaking your shrimp in a mixture of butter and garlic before grilling it. I am in love, it hasn't even left my kitchen counter to go into the cabinet since I bought it because I use it so much.My husband being a Yankee wasn't used to the goodness of the cast iron but now that he sees how perfectly it browns meat while still leaving it moist he is hooked.With this pan I find the grooves to be so helpful.You can season the meat without worrying about all the seasoning burning to the pan.Also they're nice and deep so that the fat that does run off actually stays off the meat.Cleaning it is SO easy!I just run hot water into the pan while it's still hot from the stove then use a sponge or dish towel (NO SOAP) to wipe it out, rinse it off, and then spray with vegetable spray while it's warm before putting it away.I have to say that Lodge has a loyal fan in me.With quality old time cookware like this, without the hassle of seasoning it first you can't go wrong.

The griddle covers the burners perfectly and the handles are easy to hold but are configured so the griddle fits a typcial gas range just right. The cheaper griddles tend to warp (after heating) and the expensive ones are usually too big for the standard gas range.Someone at KitchenAid did their homework.This griddle gives you the expensive perfomance (and look) but at a mid range price.

(More customer reviews)It's heavy and dead-flat.What can you say about a griddle except that it does exactly what you wish a griddle would do.There are no hot-spots, and the handle stays cool.(The Calphalon Contemporary handles are big, and may get in the way occasionally -- but they stay very cool.)
One thing, though -- the non-stick surface is *really* non stick.Make an omlette and it'll spread over just about the whole bottom of the pan in no-time-flat -- which is just great, so long as you like really thin omlettes.Over-easy eggs can be a bit tricky because it's so slippery -- it's not that easy to get the spatula underneath! (Part of that's because plastic and coated spatulas are thicker than metal ones.)One time I almost pushed an egg right off the griddle and onto the stovetop.But anyone who's ever had something stick to a griddle will not complain that nothing can stick.
Cleanup is strange.It just doesn't get dirty.I've only had this awhile, but I've used it twenty times, and the nonstick is not only still in perfect condition, it doesn't even show the "bright spots" that, with high-quality non-stick cookware, indicates some mechanical burnishing.I think this will last forever.

(More customer reviews)i've had this for only a couple months and this grill is HORRIBLE headache and as soon as i can afford to replace it its going in the trash. i should have stayed with presto. i had 2 of thier grills that i used constantly until the non stick surface was worn out and each of them lasted over a year and a half before that happened. but they always heated evenly.never did i have the problems with them and especially when i've only had it a couple months and its surfaces looks worse than either of them..not only do i have to put everything on 400 degrees to get any sort of heat. it does not cook evenly the entire center of the grill won't get hot enough to grilland the heat sensor will not only NOT turn on without jiggling it countless times when it DOES finally heat up it wont stay hot and turns off mid cooking my food and i have to rejiggle the element to get it to RE turn on.. i also wish i would have read these reviews before purchasing, i was going to get a presto but this one had a cheap price so i got it instead cause i was trying to get a good deal.. big mistake!!!awaiting the day i can throw this horrible waste of money away.. the heating surface IS large and i like the warming basket.. it does work well.. but that is it..

(More customer reviews)I bought this griddle to replace a non-stick one that we have owned for years. My husband had heard so many things about the dangers of the chemical coatings entering food that he really wanted us to get rid of all our pots and pans and go to something "safer".

I had to admit that all my "coated" pans had deteriorated and been replaced many times because the coating just does not last....So, we decided to try stainless steel, even though my prior experiences with it years ago had meant sticky surfaces, uneven cooking and hard to clean.

The CHEF'S SECRET is a great, heavy-duty stainless griddle that is actually easy to clean (with a brillo or scrubber) and it cooks even better than the pans I have used in the past, including the non-sticks. You do have to have a good coating before cooking to avoid sticking, but we like olive oil and that seems to work well in addition to being good for you.

It has a nice heft to it and solid construction and I love having a lid available, particularly a glass one to keep an eye on the food.

I HIGHLY recommend this griddle for its abilities, construction and style!
