Kinetic Go Green Stainless Steel Non Stick Open Fryers Review

Kinetic Go Green Stainless Steel Non Stick Open Fryers
Average Reviews:

I have only used this skillet a couple of times and it's already stained. I followed instructions and only used medium heat but the non-stick doesn't work too well and the skillet is stained, like it absorbed the butter, it won't go, no matter how hard I clean it. It looks like it's cheaply made and will not last long.

10" Skillet - Ceramcor Xtrema Review

10' Skillet - Ceramcor Xtrema
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While searching for a healthier alternative to metal cookware, and especially (toxic) teflon, I found Xtrema Ceramic Cookware.I didn't purchase it through an Amazon seller, so I can't rate the seller.I bought mine at ceramcor(dot)com with free shipping. But since I saw this cookware here at Amazon, I thought I would give it a review.

So far I purchased the 5.5 quart covered saucepan, the 12 in. covered skillet and the 10 in. skillet. The 10 in. skillet doesn't come with a cover, but the 5.5 qt saucepan cover fits it perfectly. This cookware only took me a couple of meals to get the hang of.My husband and I absolutely love it!When stovetop cooking, we learned fast that it heats up real quick and only needs the medium heat setting or lower... especially if you cook without the cover. When your food is done cooking you want to remove the cookware from the burner because your food will continue to cook as the heat is retained for a long time, which is perfect for setting it on the dinner table if you want to keep your food hot.My first experience was not good.Being used to cooking with high heat (for only a few minutes) before lowering the temp, I over-cooked my meal and it stuck pretty badly to the pan.I soaked it overnight with warm water and dish liquid and it cleaned up just like a teflon pan, no kidding!Needless to say, they clean up like a breeze when you're "not" burning anything, lol!It has a non-scratch, non-toxic ceramic glaze surface. You can use brillo pads on these and they won't scratch, but so far I've only needed a regular kitchen scrub sponge. This cookware can be used in the oven, stovetop, broiler, freezer, grill, microwave and dishwasher... very versatile! What I love best about this cookware is using the cover when cooking on the stovetop.Because the cover is the same material as the pan, your food cooks like a covered casserole in the oven.

This is a long review (sorry!), but just a quick mention... tonight (on the stovetop) we cooked chicken breasts with peppers, onions and garlic with the cover on- at the last few minutes of cooking time I tossed in 3 large, sliced, sweet potatoes (with cover back on) and they cooked super fast, were tender and absorbed all the flavors... no need to cook your potatoes separately!Next time, along with the potatoes, I'll toss in some greens, too, saving me the hassle of cooking with so many pots and pans.

This cookware is expensive, but other than being durable and long-lasting, if you read all the health benefits at the website I mentioned above, you'll agree that it's a healthy investment.I'll never go back to aluminum (which is known to cause alzheimer disease) or toxic teflon... which, btw, if you have pet birds please do not cook with teflon. The fumes are so toxic and are known (and statistics are well documented) to kill birds within a matter of minutes.Their little livers shut down after working overtime trying to detoxify the fumes, this causes fluid to fill their lungs... in turn suffocating them to death :o(Sorry, I didn't mean to end this review on such a sad note, but I think it's very important for everyone to know this.

GreenPan Stockholm Skillet - 9½" - Non-stick Review

GreenPan Stockholm Skillet - 9½' - Non-stick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i have the 12 inch stainless steel version which i got for christmas. 4 months later and the non-stick aspect has essentially failed. the coating is still in tact, but many things, tofu in particular, are sticking to the surface. we have had non-stick pans in the past, and all but the cheapest the surface held up well. We were not novices to the care of this stuff. We were excited about this one with the non-PFOA coating. It worked great at the start, but quickly declined. Our use of a nylon scrubby when stuff started to stick appears to have hastened its demise. Still, for a viable option these things need to be more robust. An average stainless steel skillet works better at this point. Sad.

GreenPan Stockholm Skillet - 8" - Non-stick Review

GreenPan Stockholm Skillet - 8' - Non-stick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased a set of this cookware at Target approximately 9 months ago. I have used the skillet to make omlettes 6-10 times a month. I use a smidge of butter for flavor - in the beginning. The pans were non-stick and there were no issues. However, after about three months, the non-stickiness began to wear out and I've got burn marks on the pan that will not come off, despite soaking and hot water and scrubbing with a scratch-resistant sponge. I appreciate the safety factor of the Green Pan over 'traditional' non-stick pans, but I believe I will be looking at another alternative solution so that I do not have to replace the pan every 6 months.

Update:
The pans got to the point by January that they were completely unusable. I could use 3 pats of butter to cook 2 eggs, and I would need 3 more pats to flip the eggs and they would STILL stick.

Target, of course, no longer carries the pans because they suck. I was referred to the manufacturer who first offered to send me replacements (I was quite clear in my email indicating that I had purchased them from Target). I declined as I have since purchased Cuisinart Green Gourmet Cookware set and LOVE THEM. The employee told me they would send me a return label and issue me a refund (in writing). I asked what would be the timeline for receiving refund, when she said it would be forwarded to HSN. I advised her I did not purchase it from HSN as my email stated. She said they couldn't refund it then.I advised her that her oversight was not my problem. I was then treated extremely rude.

If you do research online, you'll see that there are mentions of defective batches and that the Better Homes and Gardens seal is being revoked. They have Facebook pages about how much the Greenpans suck. And I have created a blog dedicated to how much Greenpans suck showing photos of what 'lifetime non-stick' is like as well as the emails I received.

Earth Pan II by Farberware Hard Anodized Skillets Review

Earth Pan II by Farberware Hard Anodized Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Earth Pan II is brought to you by the Meyer folks. After moving on from Starfrit, I am glad to report this "SandFlow" non-stick performs almost like conventional Teflon. As usual, I am skeptical about claims of Eco-friendliness (probably driven by the 33% reduction in energy required to cure the surface). But the 600°F oven rating is impressive since some pans don't even specify a maximum temperature rating. If the temperature at which the coating disintegrates is that much higher than my everyday cooking range, then that's added peace of mind for me.

The 8" is a great size for scrambling 2-3 eggs, although it seems to take forever to brown anything. The coating is a fairly slick light gray (as opposed to the rougher non-stick you get from, say, Calphalon), and shows no signs of wear and tear after a month of gentle use and hand washing.

Those of you who don't like heft will appreciate its light weight. It has a very nicely sculpted handle fastened by rivets, but I do wish manufacturers would get past the nostalgia of protruding rivets and give me something that is flush--inside and outside--so it is easier to clean. After all, hand washing is recommended.

So far, it seems to be a quality product with superb fit and finish--and a joy to use.

NINE MONTH UPDATE:
The non-stick is now about 70% as effective as it was on day one (I feel this happens with teflon non-stick pans too). I figured out that if I preheat the pan first, sausages brown really nicely. I think this is what the pan is best suited for--frying at high temperatures where teflon has the risk of breaking down and becoming carcinogenic. Clean up is effortless. Eggs are a different matter. I catch myself using a little more oil than usual. Fried eggs stick, and flipping them for 'over easy' often leads to broken yokes. Scrambling eggs can result in a layer of egg being left behind (see photo), but I find that if I keep moving the egg around, I can significantly reduce this. For some reason, if I cook another batch, the previously stuck egg actually releases itself from the pan. I can clean off most of what's left with a nylon brush. I've found it's easiest to clean when you let the scrambled egg dry to a crisp--then it pretty much just flakes off. A little finger nail action removes the remainder. The non-stick surface still looks good as new. 4 stars.

Product Description:
Get serious about your cooking and your green credentials with this 12-inch hard-anodized skillet from Farberware's Earth Pan II line. Harder than stainless steel, the cookware's hard-anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance, as well as quick and even heat distribution to help reduce hot spots. Oven-safe up to 600 degrees F, its dual riveted stainless-steel handle offers a comfortable, confident grip. Earth Pan cookware works on all cooking surfaces, except for induction cookers.
The foundation of all Earth Pan cookware is the unique SandFlow nonstick coating that originates from sand--used to manufacture kitchenware like glass and silicone bakeware. Just like the nonstick pans you've used over the years, Earth Pan cookware is formulated to provide excellent food release without use of cooking oils, and the pans are easy to clean. Based on industry lab tests, SandFlow nonstick surfaces are three times more durable than ceramic-based surfaces and they require 33-percent less energy to cure than traditional nonstick pans.
The SandFlow coating does not contain PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, also known as the brand name Teflon) or PFOA (a key processing agent in making nonstick and stain-resistant materials, including Teflon)--both of which have raised health concerns in recent years. Laboratory animals exposed to high doses of PFOA suffered cancer, low birth weight, and a suppressed immune system, though PTFE-manufactured nonstick cookware is considered an insignificant exposure source of PFOA.
This skillet is dishwasher safe, though handwashing is recommended to ensure longevity. Metal utensils and abrasive cleaners or brushes should be avoided. Earth Pan's packaging material and inserts are made from at least 50-percent recycled fiber with all materials being 100-percent recyclable.

Cuisinart Green Gourmet Eco-Friendly Skillets Review

Cuisinart Green Gourmet Eco-Friendly Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am an avid home chef and a fervent hater of nonstick cookware. I went through so many sets of nonstick in my early married years, everything from the $30 "whole kitchen in a box" set I got as wedding gift to a "top of the line" set that my mother-in-law gave me years later. I babied the stuff, but it still wound up scratched and peeling and in the trash. And, I never liked the cooking performance of any of it. So, many years ago I threw it all out and bought an 18/10 stainless set- which I love and praise to anyone who will listen, and have never had to replace a single piece of. BUT, even I will admit that it's tough to get a decent fried egg from a stainless pan, so I kept an 8" nonstick skillet around just for that purpose. It was needing to be replaced so I decided to go with hard anodized. Hesitantly, I was going to get another brand with the teflon type finish. Then I saw this, and liked the idea of the the ceramic type finish. I can't tell you how much I love this pan. It fries beautifully. Sears salmon and steaks. Cleans with a wipe and a rinse. I have had this for a couple of months, used it MANY times, and am getting ready to buy the 12" for bigger jobs. Even my 8 year old can make beautiful(no tears)fried eggs with it. Oh, and did you know that you can thaw meats faster in it. Hard anodized is an amazing conducter of heat, so it pulls the cold out of the food. Just set it on the counter (covered) and wait about 20 minute (depends on thickness of the meat) turn it over once and voila you have thawed meat.

From eggs at breakfast to fish, chicken, or steak at dinnertime, this 8-inch open skillet is a great all-round performer. This pan also delivers superior heat conductivity, requiring less energy to achieve the desired cooking temperature. Harder than stainless steel, the skillet's hard anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance as well as quick and even heat distribution. Additionally, the securely riveted stay-cool steel handle--featuring a V-shaped base so that heat dissipates--is manufactured using 70 percent recycled stainless steel and is oven-safe to 500 degrees F, so food can be browned on the stovetop then transferred to the oven to finish cooking.
Cuisinart's GreenGourmet cookware is designed with an exclusive Cuisinart Ceramica nonstick surface, which features a petroleum-free, ceramic-based coating that is applied at a temperature one half that of traditional nonsticks. The coating does not contain PTFE and PFOA, substances often used in nonstick cookware that have raised health concerns over the years. It was also developed using manufacturing techniques that reduce harmful carbon emissions by consuming less energy. The coating is also water-based, unlike other nonstick coatings on the market, which are solvent-based. In addition, Cuisinart's cookware has a scratch-resistant nonstick surface that won't peel off. The new cookware conforms to FDA and European RoHS standards for environmentally sound products.
This pan should be hand-washed with a mild detergent, and it carries a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Cuisinart also gets some green cred from the packaging, which is made from 100 percent recycled materials and is printed using 100 percent biodegradable soy ink. --Agen G.N. Schmitz
