KitchenAid 12-Inch Cast-Iron Chicken Fryer, Garnet Review

KitchenAid 12 inch Cast-Iron Chicken Fryer, Garnet

I guess I should have been more careful, but I didn't realize it would be this fragile. But the first time I used it, and cleaned it up, it had chips (chunks chipped out) on the ridges in the bottom of the pan. Otherwise it appears to work well. I guess time will tell if it was worth the amount of money spent on it.

I read the first review and thought the complaint was with the shipping. So I purchased the Heuck to get away frome teflon. It arrived in 3 boxes within one The original manufacture box, inside another box then a box for that one. Ours arrived in great condition. BTW the red colour is a pleasent red not and orange red. I tested it for lead content with a home kit and it passed with flying colours. This has become our favorite pan, we are glad we ordered the one with the lid.

Staub Hexagon Frying Pan with Two Handles and Removable Silicone Handle Holders, 11 Inch, Black Matte Review

Staub Hexagon Frying Pan with Two Handles and Removable Silicone Handle Holders, 11 Inch, Black Matte
Average Reviews:

This pan is absolutely beautiful as all Staub products are.If you own a piece of Staub, you know that by "beautiful" I mean both in form and function, and that extra weight that their pans have, with the obvious high quality. And then there is the instant infatuation with the piece that you get with Staub (and others get with Le Creuset). For me personally, it is Staub. When I cooked with it tonight, the infatuation continued! There is certainly nothing more beautiful as cooking in quality cast-iron, even just as you glance down on the stove.Though I think this is a matter of personal preference, cast iron does touch something deep inside.Probably because people have been cooking with it for so long, and it just looks primitive, and it looks like it's working...it cooks your food.

Note that this pan does not come with a lid.I (stupidly) did not realize the significance of this (being a new cook) until it arrived and I wanted to make something with it for dinner that night that needed a lid.Staub clarified that any lid should be fine (i.e.,not scratch it), so tonight I made a chicken dish with couscous and asparagus, which all turned out really well.I just used an 11" lid I had from another (non staub pan). But you may want to consider a saute pan with lid as another option - not that you should get that instead of this, but just consider which you want in particular.Staub does not manufacture separate lids.

Also, the red handles do get rather hot when the pan is being used on the stovetop (I had it between low-med and med for about 15 minutes by the time they were hot). However, they are perfect for at least being able to momentarily hold or move the pan, as they are certainly not as hot as the handles underneath!I did find myself occasionally grabbing pot holders still, because I didn't always want to be conscientious and "test" the heat every time.Perhaps over time I will come to know how hot they are so I can trust that I won't be burned. You can touch them, and you can move the pan around, but you won't want to be holding them for say, more than 10 seconds.*This again as opposed to touching the bare pan, which might burn you instantly.

The non-stick works pretty well.About 20% of the pan had stuck-on couscous in a very thin layer, but it was only a very very tiny amount of wasted food, not anything you would even think about for a half-second.I plan on soaking the pan and that will be the end of the couscous!DO NOT USE THIS PAN TO MAKE EGGS.You can soak it for 30 years, and you'll still have to use your nails to individually peel the egg crust out of each and every single bubble in the bottom of this pan - that's about 75 indentations you'll be individually scraping out.It hurts and takes about 20 minutes sitting with the pan.

Despite any shortcomings, I absolutely love this (lidless) pan, and will use it every excuse that I get!It is a "forever" pan, meaning that I will be using it for the rest of my life. You see, I told you that I was infatuated!

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Chicken Fryers Review

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Chicken Fryers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one sturdy pan--be ready for a bit of heavy lifting if you're going from stove to oven, because it takes two hands. I knew I wanted a cast iron skillet for frying and other things, and knew I wanted it to be a heavyweight (because that's how good cast iron skillets should be), and decided on this one because I liked the looks and the pouring lip, and Cuisinart tends to be reliable. It has a sorta high price tag, but from what my grandmother told me, a good cast-iron skillet will last forever, so I dove in. And so far, it's been more than worth it. Not just for chicken frying, though the straight tall sides make it great for frying (I've tried a couple things, chicken, hushpuppies, and zucchini and all have come out nice an hot and crisp), but also for making things from browning a ton of onions, to simmering a sauce, to making a big curry for about 10 people. It's just a workhorse of a pan, and the ability to drop it in the oven (using both hands, don't forget) to finish off a dish is very helpful. Oh, and it does look great (I have red) on the stove, too, which is a bonus. Overall, I'd suggest this pan to anyone, whether they want to use it to fry chicken or not. It's an investment that you'll be using for many years.

Lodge Enamel Coated Cast-Iron Skillet, Red Review

Lodge Enamel Coated Cast-Iron Skillet, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This handy little skillet is actually a HEAVY WEIGHT! It has the durability of cast iron, and the convenience of non-stick coating. I hesitated when ordering because I have had teflon skillets that would flake after a while, but this is not like the non-stick of old. It has a 25-year limited warantee!

Since I have an electric stove, it took some time to learn how to adust the stove because it retains the heat so well. I finally started turning the stove off the last 10 minutes or so. That works great for me. Also, if I'm cooking a steak, I sear it good on one side, turn it, and finish cooking in the oven at 450* for another 10 minutes. That's another thing I like...the fact that the skillet can go right from the stovetop to the oven. Careful, because the handle does get very hot, and also the skillet is HEAVY because it's cast iron, but it's a good heavy!

Le Creuset Oval Fish Skillets Review

This is a hybrid pan-a cross between a griddle and a skillet. It fits perfectly on my stovetop bridge burner and has the added bonus of having 1 1/2" sides so deglazing works perfectly.I just use it as an extra large skillet and only have to use low to medium heat. All Le Creuset looks beautiful on the table so serving in this pan looks great.Cleaning is a breeze--just let it cool, soak for a short periiod of time and everything wipes off easily! When recipes work better with heavier cookware, Le Creuset is my choice--I have many pieces (different colors!) and really enjoy using all of them.(All-Clad is my choice for other duties...)If heavy pans are not an issue for you, try Le Creuset!

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Inch Skillets Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9 inch Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a huge fan of Le Cruest's products and own a few well chosen pieces. Having said that, this new satin finish is a disappointment. I was given this a gift a year ago and was thrilled- until I used it.

I really wish they'd go back to their original smooth enamel finish. This must be an attempt to produce an interior more durable for using metal utensils with. An attempt that in my opinion is a failure. Things (like eggs and hamburgers) stick to this finish. You have to use a lot more fat to prevent sticking. It's hard to get clean, takes quite a bit of scrubbing even after soaking. It doesn't give the finish to grilled meats, etc that I want from a fry pan. Forget deglazing it to make a sauce. I find my All Clad 9 inch skillet to be a superior performer to this one.

Since this is a 9 inch skillet, I haven't used it to saute onions, etc., so I can't say how it performs with these items.

I do use it to make cornbread and to roast small portions of meats or veg in the oven, with good results (as long as I'm not going to use the browned bits to make a sauce). This to me though, is not enough uses to justify buying it.

Product Description:
This reliable skillet from Le Creuset features the manufacturer's signature combination of cast iron and coated enamel. The piece not only retains and distributes heat evenly; its strong surface resists scratches, stains, and the damaging effects of regular household use. The iron-handled skillet measures 9 inches across, holds 1-3/8 quarts, and features sloping sides for rapid evaporation. It ably sautes, fries, and sears. The cast iron handle won't shake or wobble and comes with a hole in its center for hanging storage; use of a potholder is required for hand protection. An additional helper handle aids transport, while two integrated pouring spouts simplify draining fats and juices. Although practical in every way, the pan doesn't sacrifice an attractive appearance. Its shiny finish--available in many colors--enables the cookware to transition from stove to table and hold its own as serveware. The dishwasher-safe skillet measures 10-1/2 by 15-1/4 by 1-3/5 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 11-3/4-Inch Skillets Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 11-3/4 inch Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, let me say I agree with the reviewer who deducted stars from the 9" skillet due to the non-stick coating.Since non-stick coatings are chemicals, I refuse to use any cooking utensil with the coating on them. The original, baked enamel finish on this skillet works great. The secret is using moderate heat and adding oil once the pan warms up, then adding the food items. If the meat sticks, it will unstick as it carmelizes (this also applies to their grilling skillets).I find that I can just wipe mine out and keep using it until I make chili or something messy like that. Then all I do is fill the skillet with water and let it sit a while, then it rinses clean. At the maximum, I've taken a boar bristle brush to a couple of spots once or twice, that's all.

I beseech this company to leave the non-stick coating off their skillets even though one reviewer below seems to prefer it.Or at the minimum give the consumer a choice but I'd bet most would prefer the original, satin finish. In fact, I bought this skillet because of the fired enamel finish as I discovered my well-known name brand stainless steel skillet and stew/pasta pot has too much nickel in them so I can't use them.Anyway, I love this skillet. It makes a good wok too as the burner is under the center of the pan.I can fry up one veggie, push it off to the side where it stays warm while I fry the next one, then push it over until I'm finished.Did I say I loved this skillet?

I wish they made a lid for this skillet as I had to buy another brand which doesn't match but it works.Since most skillets come without lids, this is being silly, I agree. So then, I highly recommend this skillet both for cooking and for easy clean-up.
