KitchenAid 12-Inch Cast-Iron Chicken Fryer, Garnet Review

KitchenAid 12 inch Cast-Iron Chicken Fryer, Garnet

I guess I should have been more careful, but I didn't realize it would be this fragile. But the first time I used it, and cleaned it up, it had chips (chunks chipped out) on the ridges in the bottom of the pan. Otherwise it appears to work well. I guess time will tell if it was worth the amount of money spent on it.

Fitx-All Replacement Pan Handle Review

Fitx-All Replacement Pan Handle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When a handle broke on a fry pan that saw daily use for more than 25 years, I looked for a replacement. How disappointing to find that this Fitz-All handle is the only one on the market!I didn't realize how nice the original handle was until I replaced it with this lightweight, flimsy handle. But that's not the problem - the problem is that it broke after only a couple of months.I bought a second one, which lasted seven months, and now I've ordered a third one. These handles apparently just can't stand up to the heat - they start showing cracks and then break. When I get the new one, I plan to put it on a deeper pan to keep it farther from the heat source. Also, I don't use the deep pan very often, so maybe the handle will last longer.

If anyone finds a better alternative, please post a message!Meanwhile, I'll have to keep buying these cheap handles...

Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless-Steel 12 1/2 Inch Nonstick Fry Pan Review

I have been buying my fry pans at a restaurant supply but got tired of the declining quality. This is a very good product. As always, let cool before putting under the water or you will warp the pan bottom I am sure. This is a very sturdy product with a superior non stick finish.I will let you know in five years or so if it held up to my expectations.By the way, it holds a whole meal for a family.I really like that versus two or three skillets of cooking, trying to keep the first and second warm while you finish the last. This will be a good purchase for you.

This is a beautiful pan.I own and enjoy many pieces of the cast iron from Le Creuset. However, I prefer stainless steel.I was very happy when they came out with a stainless steel line by Le Creuset. This pan is a nice size for a family of four.I only gave it 4 stars because it would have been nice to have a lid.Otherwise it is a great pan.

Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless-Steel 11 inch Nonstick Fry Pan
Average Reviews:

I was skeptical of the value of this frying pan, but being a fan of the brand, I decided to plunk down my hard earned dollars and take a chance.Boy am I glad that I did! This is a thick pan that heats evenly and doesn't warp like so many of the thinner nonstick products. The handle is hollow and the overall weight of the pan is much lighter than Le Creuset's typical cast iron pans.I have cooked hashbrowns, eggs, pork, burgers, chicken, fried rice, etc. in this pan and it works well for everything.Clean-up is a breeze.Le Crueset says it is dishwasher safe (although it might discolor) but recommends hand washing. The instructions recommend seasoning the pan with vegetable oil before its first use.I did this and haven't had to use any non-stick spray for anything.Cooking meat in this pan surprised me.With the pan on a medium setting, I am able to brown the meat and seal in the flavor much like a cast iron pan. They also make a slightly deeper version of the pan which is great if you like to cook all-in-one stove top meals. The deeper version has a fitted lid that costs twenty dollars extra.

Olvida 13 Inch Nickel Plated Cast Iron Skillet Review

Olvida 13 Inch Nickel Plated Cast Iron Skillet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cooks Illustrated reviewed this product favorably and was the catalyst for my purchase. To have something with all the benefits of cast iron and the benefits of stainless steel was worth the extra expense.

It's pretty disappointing that these expecations were never met.

The skillet arrived with a "hole" in the cooking surface about the size of a pinhead.I was very concerned about this and tried to contact Olvida directly about it.Turns out Olvida is just a marketing label and this product is turned out by a small plating foundry in the Eastern United States. After expressing my concern about the hole, I was told not to worry about it as the nickel plating was 100% covered and was safe to use.

Still not convinced, I cooked up a pair of cheap pieces of meat just to put it through a single use cycle.Olive oil, pork, spices - it cooked evently but was an absolute pain to clean. The finish was marred, discolored and showed very uneven heating discoloration.I followed the directions for cleaning and then put it in the dishwasher once it cooled.

When I pulled it out, that single pin hole I was concerned about showed it's true colors.Rust. The assurances that I was given that the product was safe and as described were false.

Save your money, get a regular cast iron or a ceramic cast iron and put the elbow grease into maintaining it.It'll be worth it in the long run.
Do not purchase this product.

Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless-Steel 8-Inch Nonstick Omelet Pan Review

Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless-Steel 8 inch Nonstick Omelet Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just recently bought the 8 pc. set of stainless steel cookware from le creuset. I am a big fan of All Clad- which my parents have- and wanted something that could compete, but wasn't as expensive. I tested this pan against my mom's All Clad 9" non-stick skillet this morning. Here were my results:

This pan heated up slightly slower than the All Clad pan- but only by a second or two. Neither pan needed high temperatures to cook, and both finished eggs at about the same time.

Clean up was SO easy. No scrubbing at all. The finish on this skillet is beautiful. It comes with a 10 year warranty, too (because it is non-stick).

I would recommend this skillet to anyone looking for a great non-stick skillet that cooks evenly, has easy clean up, looks great, and is reasonably priced. The pan is heavy, which is nice for keeping it level on the stove, as well.

I read the first review and thought the complaint was with the shipping. So I purchased the Heuck to get away frome teflon. It arrived in 3 boxes within one The original manufacture box, inside another box then a box for that one. Ours arrived in great condition. BTW the red colour is a pleasent red not and orange red. I tested it for lead content with a home kit and it passed with flying colours. This has become our favorite pan, we are glad we ordered the one with the lid.

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Chicken Fryers Review

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Chicken Fryers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one sturdy pan--be ready for a bit of heavy lifting if you're going from stove to oven, because it takes two hands. I knew I wanted a cast iron skillet for frying and other things, and knew I wanted it to be a heavyweight (because that's how good cast iron skillets should be), and decided on this one because I liked the looks and the pouring lip, and Cuisinart tends to be reliable. It has a sorta high price tag, but from what my grandmother told me, a good cast-iron skillet will last forever, so I dove in. And so far, it's been more than worth it. Not just for chicken frying, though the straight tall sides make it great for frying (I've tried a couple things, chicken, hushpuppies, and zucchini and all have come out nice an hot and crisp), but also for making things from browning a ton of onions, to simmering a sauce, to making a big curry for about 10 people. It's just a workhorse of a pan, and the ability to drop it in the oven (using both hands, don't forget) to finish off a dish is very helpful. Oh, and it does look great (I have red) on the stove, too, which is a bonus. Overall, I'd suggest this pan to anyone, whether they want to use it to fry chicken or not. It's an investment that you'll be using for many years.

This is a hybrid pan-a cross between a griddle and a skillet. It fits perfectly on my stovetop bridge burner and has the added bonus of having 1 1/2" sides so deglazing works perfectly.I just use it as an extra large skillet and only have to use low to medium heat. All Le Creuset looks beautiful on the table so serving in this pan looks great.Cleaning is a breeze--just let it cool, soak for a short periiod of time and everything wipes off easily! When recipes work better with heavier cookware, Le Creuset is my choice--I have many pieces (different colors!) and really enjoy using all of them.(All-Clad is my choice for other duties...)If heavy pans are not an issue for you, try Le Creuset!

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Inch Skillets Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9 inch Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a huge fan of Le Cruest's products and own a few well chosen pieces. Having said that, this new satin finish is a disappointment. I was given this a gift a year ago and was thrilled- until I used it.

I really wish they'd go back to their original smooth enamel finish. This must be an attempt to produce an interior more durable for using metal utensils with. An attempt that in my opinion is a failure. Things (like eggs and hamburgers) stick to this finish. You have to use a lot more fat to prevent sticking. It's hard to get clean, takes quite a bit of scrubbing even after soaking. It doesn't give the finish to grilled meats, etc that I want from a fry pan. Forget deglazing it to make a sauce. I find my All Clad 9 inch skillet to be a superior performer to this one.

Since this is a 9 inch skillet, I haven't used it to saute onions, etc., so I can't say how it performs with these items.

I do use it to make cornbread and to roast small portions of meats or veg in the oven, with good results (as long as I'm not going to use the browned bits to make a sauce). This to me though, is not enough uses to justify buying it.

Product Description:
This reliable skillet from Le Creuset features the manufacturer's signature combination of cast iron and coated enamel. The piece not only retains and distributes heat evenly; its strong surface resists scratches, stains, and the damaging effects of regular household use. The iron-handled skillet measures 9 inches across, holds 1-3/8 quarts, and features sloping sides for rapid evaporation. It ably sautes, fries, and sears. The cast iron handle won't shake or wobble and comes with a hole in its center for hanging storage; use of a potholder is required for hand protection. An additional helper handle aids transport, while two integrated pouring spouts simplify draining fats and juices. Although practical in every way, the pan doesn't sacrifice an attractive appearance. Its shiny finish--available in many colors--enables the cookware to transition from stove to table and hold its own as serveware. The dishwasher-safe skillet measures 10-1/2 by 15-1/4 by 1-3/5 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 10 1/4 Inch Skillets Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 10 1/4 Inch Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like others, I bought this pan after the New York Times review came out on alternatives to teflon (the review said that this pan was terrific). My husband and I eat omelets for dinner several nights a week and our teflon pans were starting to lose their nonstick properties. This pan can work well for cooking eggs. The trick, as others have noted, is to preheat the pan on low to medium heat and then to give it a light coat of oil before adding anything to it.The day I received the pan I made a 5-egg omelet and it came out well -- I was easily able to flip the whole thing without it breaking.I've also made over-easy eggs and they have come out well too.I like this pan better than my old teflon ones because it's less delicate, it's dishwasher-safe, and I don't need to worry about the coating losing its effectiveness.Plus, it produces food with a nice surface, which teflon has a hard time doing. It is not quite as nonstick as a teflon pan, but it gets the job done (and is much more nonstick than stainless).I'm pleased with the purchase.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 10 1/4 Inch Square Skillet Grills Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 10 1/4 Inch Square Skillet Grills
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The only reason why this doesn't get the last star, in my book, is because of its somewhat limited usefulness. However, if you live in an apartment or otherwise anywhere where grilling is impossible, this is the next best thing....like all other Le Creuset products this heats evenly and wonderfully and takes abuse.I got mine as part of a 6-piece set (along with a Dutch Oven, Baking Pan, and Casserole) and sorta at first saw this as a "filler" piece. However, to it's credit, this pan can do even easilly-burned items like tofu dogs and fake bacon WONDERFULLY, which shocked me--I was convinced that nothing could give a "grilled" effect to those items. I even got adventerous the first time I used it and grilled some apple rings.I panicked when some sugar seemed to be burnt on for good despite a good soaking, but after the pot had been dried and put away for 48 hours it flaked right off.Forget what you know about nonstick surfaces, btw, and banish those bad memories of cruddy, flaking Teflon from the 70's.Just treat this well (I only use wooden utensils on it) and it will treat you well.Follow the instructions and enjoy!Just be sure to use a potholder and realize that once this thing gets hot it STAYS hot for a LONG time.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 11-3/4-Inch Skillets Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 11-3/4 inch Skillets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, let me say I agree with the reviewer who deducted stars from the 9" skillet due to the non-stick coating.Since non-stick coatings are chemicals, I refuse to use any cooking utensil with the coating on them. The original, baked enamel finish on this skillet works great. The secret is using moderate heat and adding oil once the pan warms up, then adding the food items. If the meat sticks, it will unstick as it carmelizes (this also applies to their grilling skillets).I find that I can just wipe mine out and keep using it until I make chili or something messy like that. Then all I do is fill the skillet with water and let it sit a while, then it rinses clean. At the maximum, I've taken a boar bristle brush to a couple of spots once or twice, that's all.

I beseech this company to leave the non-stick coating off their skillets even though one reviewer below seems to prefer it.Or at the minimum give the consumer a choice but I'd bet most would prefer the original, satin finish. In fact, I bought this skillet because of the fired enamel finish as I discovered my well-known name brand stainless steel skillet and stew/pasta pot has too much nickel in them so I can't use them.Anyway, I love this skillet. It makes a good wok too as the burner is under the center of the pan.I can fry up one veggie, push it off to the side where it stays warm while I fry the next one, then push it over until I'm finished.Did I say I loved this skillet?

I wish they made a lid for this skillet as I had to buy another brand which doesn't match but it works.Since most skillets come without lids, this is being silly, I agree. So then, I highly recommend this skillet both for cooking and for easy clean-up.
